While I am very sad to see the Ponds leave (they’re two of my favorite companions and I love them as much as Leela and Sarah Jane Smith), I was one of those aliens Matt Smith mentioned that didn’t cry when the Ponds took their leave. I mean I did tear up a little because it’s a good-bye, but I think I teared up more when Amy and Rory were on the building about to jump- not because I thought they’d die, but just because their love for each other is so touching. Basically, the Ponds are alive and well living in another time. The lived a long life and I’m quite certain a happy life because they were together. It’s possible they even could have hung out with Brian at some point and let him know everything. All these things made it easy for me to not think it tragic, but especially this: They got to keep their memories.
When I think of the saddest departure on Doctor Who, I will forever think of Donna Noble. How horrible to have a friend like the Doctor, learn about new worlds and civilizations, have adventures, save so many people, make people’s lives better, and then have it all wiped away. The Weeping angels would be eternally sated by the potential stolen from her. Remember how much Donna grew as a person - such a wonderfully amazing person, a good person - to have that all ripped away and place back into her meaningless temp job, returning to the semi-shallow person she was at the beginning of the show. That. That makes me cry.

And the damned Statue. I mean, seriously it was totally pointless. Although I loved the noir feel at the beginning.

Oh my goodness, Donna’s departure has been the saddest thing on Doctor Who yet for me…I can’t even imagine, and it was even more killer how bad Wilf wanted the Doctor to say something to her during the End of Time. She was my favourite companion.

I was a blubbering fool the entire time. I cried more than when Shelby died in Steel Magnolias. I dunno why I cried so much because it was really the best ending I could have hoped for.

To me, it was almost as bad as Joss Whedon burning away Fred’s soul. Basically, not even peace for her in the afterlife. Just gone. Forever.
